From Pebbles to Pillars, explores the harmonious connection between the community of Marino and its stunning coastal environment. Working with boulders from the Linwood Quarry, the artwork features abstract figures adorned with vibrant colours, symbolising the individuality and diversity of the community. The figures, with varying proportions and playful postures, create a dynamic composition that interacts with the site. The inclusion of a dog figure serves as a tribute to the enduring bond between humans and their canine companions, a relationship deeply ingrained in the Marino lifestyle. Drawing inspiration from John Dowie’s 1972 Tjilbruke Monument, the piece not only anchors itself within the coastal landscape but also pays homage to Kaurna dreaming.
From Pebbles to Pillars stands as a vibrant landmark and a symbol of coming together, promoting art, activity, and human connection. The artwork's bold colours and scale ensure visibility and engagement, making it a beacon of community spirit and a testament to the active culture of Marino.
